For the past several years, the annual survey published by Community College Week, the independent newspaper of community, technical, and junior colleges, has ranked TCI first or second nationally in the conferral of engineering-related two-year degrees.  The college is located in mid-town Manhattan.  As an urban institution, it serves a diverse group of more than 3000 students from approximately 90 countries.  TCI prides itself on providing a practical hands-on education that prepares its graduates for technical employment opportunities in the New York City area.

Position Title: Financial Aid Advisor (temp)

Description:

Technical Career Institute is seeking two qualified candidates for the position of Financial Aid
Advisor (for new students). Duties include outreach to and the counseling of prospective
students applying for financial aid, reviewing applications and determining eligibility for financial
assistance. You must be available to work evenings 12 pm – 8 pm.

Application Instructions:

Must possess at least an associate degree from an accredited college and a minimum of four to five years of financial aid experience in higher education is required.

Candidate must demonstrate ability to work with an array of computer operating systems and databases such as NYSHESC, NSLDS AND EDExpress.  Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.  Demonstrates the ability to use effective counseling techniques, preferably within a financial aid environment.  The ability to remain organized and highly productive while under pressure and stress is a must. Must be capable of handling emotional situations involving difficult people.  Must possess excellent interpersonal skills to establish and work effectively with a wide variety of individuals including student, faculty, staff, and outside agencies.  Must be able to use Microsoft  Office –Word and  Excel. Bilingual is a plus.
